The Washington No-Names

After an 87 year old run, the Redskins name and logo are no more! A re-branding is in order for the football club up in DC. It seems that public and corporate pressure has finally got to Washington Redskins Owner, Daniel Snyder. With the meter of social injustice being as high as ever, billion dollar organizations like the Redskins are succumbing. With COVID-19 taking away the countries sports (a.k.a the greatest distraction to real life) it has put a magnifying glass on the social injustices that essentially have America in revolt. When, other than now, is there a better time for change?

Though I want to believe the organization is changing their name out of the goodness of their hearts, it's hard to overlook the money Synder will lose if the name is kept. Many multi-billion dollar companies have pulled Redskins merchandise from their websites in order to sway the Skin's decision. For example, retailers such as Nike, Target, Walmart, and Amazon have all pulled merchandise that reference the name and the logo. A Washington Post report detailed how FedEx - one of the teams top sponsors - expressed that they were willing to pull out of their contract if the name does not change. That would cost Danny boy and the whole franchise a whopping 45 million bucks!

With the retirement of the logo and the name, the franchise has quite the task to come up with something quick before the 2020 NFL season. That means coming up with not only a new name and logo, but creating new merchandise, new uniforms for the team, pretty much new goddamn everything! I am personally interested if the team will keep the traditional gold and burgundy. We all just have to wait and see.

Since we know that name is no more...what are we gonna call em!? Lucky for you, I've thought of some options....
    1. Warlocks (Washington's already got the Wizards, why not keep the magical mascots going?)
    2. Presidents (pretty self explanatory)
    3. Braves (This was the teams original name back in 1932, and although "Braves" still refers to Native Americans, it is defined as a warrior and also means to endure or face something without showing fear. This name pays homage to their ancestry without being racially insensitive and could work as an option) .

Those are my choices for now, but we'll see what the organization comes up with. Hopefully it won't be a dumb as some of the options that the Cleveland Indians have thought of. But that my fiends, is a story another blog.
