Miami's COVID-19 Situation

After a great opening weekend, news that many of the Miami Marlins roster have tested positive for COVID definitely took some wind out of my sails. In the past 5 days, 17 total members of the Marlins players/staff have tested positive. As a result, their series with the Baltimore Orioles has been postponed. Also, the Marlins previously played the Philidelphia Phillies who are also having their next series with the New York Yankees postponed. What a shit show this is turning into. As of today, Miami's next opponent who is scheduled to play the Marlins this weekend has voted not to travel to Miami in fear of contracting the virus. That team is the world series defending, Washington Nationals who recently had their best player, Juan Soto, test positive as well. However, the decision to travel and play lies in the hands of the league and not the Nats.

Since the schedules of at least 4 teams are messed up, (Marlins, Yankees, Phillies, Orioles), I think the Orioles should play the Yanks while we wait for the Phillie's test results to come. This way, we still have meaningful baseball and the O's and Yanks could get some of their games against each other out of the way, and we could figure out the postponed games down the road.

What's concerning to me is how many of Miami's team tested positive. They are now in no situation to throw out a team to play. Due to this, Miami is going to have to sign a bunch of free agents. No question that this sucks no matter how you look at it. Commissioner of the MLB, Rob Manfred, has stated that they are on high alert in terms of postponing and/or canceling the season, but wants to keep the season alive within reason of the players' health.

As of right now, the Yankees are currently holding the busses in Philadelphia and are waiting to see if they are heading back to NY or to Baltimore to play the Orioles. We'll have answers soon so all we can do it wait.
